Five Minutes with...Grace Smith and Sam Partridge
What can people expect from your show?
We’ll be having a blast playing some tunes that we love, both our own composed efforts and discoveries from the archive. We want to share this passion for English instrumental trad with our audience.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
It’s safe to say that our influences are varied and span a wide range of different musical outlets. In terms of this project, the work of bands such as Leveret, Moore Moss Rutter and Methera have definitely influenced our approach, but equally music from genres outside of the folk world, whether it’s Steve Reich or Jack Johnson, also inform how we make our music.
Who is your favourite new musician?
As there’s so much cool new music being made, discovering new artists we like happens daily! Someone we’ve been listening to a lot lately is guitarist, singer and all-round funky guy, Tom Misch. But must admit – can’t wait to get our hands on Katie Doherty and the Navigators’ new release!
What does performing at Sage Gateshead mean to you?
We’re thrilled to be performing at Sage Gateshead! It’s been a massive part of our education and careers so far and we’re chuffed to come back to perform alongside some fantastic musicians in this world-renowned space.
What’s coming up next for you?
We’re really looking forward to hearing to Halsway Manor down in Somerset at the start of January. We’re spending a week there to work on our music and hang out with some inspiring musicians.
